Privacy Policy

Effective 25 August 2026 · Last updated 22 September 2026

Dignity is a place to name how you feel. What you write here is personal, and we treat it that way: your entries are private to your account, we do not sell them, and we do not use them to advertise to you.

This policy explains what the Dignity app ("Dignity", "we", "us") collects, why, where it lives, and the choices you have. It applies to the Dignity app at app.dignity-inc.com and to the Dignity mobile apps distributed through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

1. Information we collect

We may collect information when you register for an account, participate in interactive features (like completing a check-in or reflection), fill out a form or a survey, request customer support, or otherwise interact with us. The information you provide may include:

WhatWhy we need it
Account details — email address, password, display nameTo create your account, sign you in, and secure it. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes; nobody at Dignity can read your password.
WhatsApp number (optional, adults only) — a phone number you may add in ProfileSo that Dignity and the regional partner who introduced you to the app can contact you on WhatsApp about the app — for example, follow-up after a conference. We share it with that partner and nobody else, never for advertising. Leave it blank and nothing is collected; remove it in Profile at any time. Accounts under 18 are never shown this field.
Emotion check-ins — the emotions you select, the journal text you write, and the time of each check-inThis is the core of the product: your history, streaks, and Insights charts are built from it.
Evening reflections — your written answersTo show your reflection history.
Notice · Name · Navigate entries — what you noticed, the emotions you named, your next moveTo save your practice sessions so you can look back at them.
Messages to the AI coach — what you type or dictate, and the coach's repliesTo hold a conversation with continuity and show your chat history.
Game activity — scores and daily puzzle progressTo track streaks and progress in Domain Dash and the Emotional Vocabulary builder.
Bug reports and feedback — anything you write in Profile → Report a problem, plus the screen you were on, your app version, your language, and your browser/device typeTo reproduce what went wrong and fix it. Only what you type in that form is sent — never your journal, check-ins, or coach conversations.

This is sensitive information. Emotional check-ins and journal entries can reveal a great deal about your mental and emotional state. We treat every entry as sensitive personal data and restrict access accordingly, as described in section 4.

Information collected automatically

What we do not collect

Consent to health information

The emotions you name, what you write in your journal, your reflections and your coach conversations are consumer health information. Before your first check-in we ask you to acknowledge that Dignity stores this information, and we collect it only after you do. You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your account (section 6), which erases the information. See our separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for the state-law notice about this information.

2. How we use your information

We use your information only to:

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We do not use your journal entries or coach conversations to train any artificial intelligence model. The one thing we share outside the providers listed in section 4 is an optional WhatsApp number, and only with the regional partner named in section 1.

3. The AI coach

When you send a message to the coach, that message — along with recent context from your account, such as your recent check-in emotions and journal text — is transmitted to Anthropic PBC, which operates the Claude model that generates the reply. Anthropic processes it to produce a response and returns it to us.

Anthropic acts as our service provider under its commercial terms, which provide that inputs and outputs submitted through its API are not used to train its models. See Anthropic's privacy policy.

Your conversation is also saved to your own account so you can see your chat history.

The coach is not a therapist. Dignity is an educational and self-reflection tool. It does not provide medical or mental-health diagnosis, treatment, or crisis intervention, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. If you are in crisis or in immediate danger, call 911, or call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US). A full list of resources is inside the app under Get professional help.

4. Where your data lives and who can see it

Your data is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database operated by Supabase on infrastructure in the United States, and the app is served by Vercel. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encrypted at rest by those providers.

Every table enforces row-level security: database rules make each row readable only by the account that created it. One user cannot read another user's check-ins, journals, or coach conversations, even if they are signed in.

A small number of authorized Dignity personnel can access production systems only when technically necessary to operate, secure, or repair the service.

Service providers

ProviderRole
SupabaseDatabase and authentication
Resend, Inc.Delivers our account email (confirmation, password reset, membership confirmation) — it receives your email address and the message, never anything from your journal
VercelApplication hosting and server logs
Anthropic PBCAI model that generates coach replies
Stripe, Inc.Payment processing for individual subscriptions (card details never touch our servers)

These providers may process your information only on our instructions and only to provide their service to us.

5. How long we keep it

6. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — for example, under the EU/UK GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and the right to complain to a supervisory authority) or under US state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing — note that Dignity does not sell or share personal information). To exercise any of these, contact us at the address in section 10. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

Where GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (running the account and app), your explicit consent (for the emotional and journal content you choose to enter, which is special-category data), legitimate interests (security and abuse prevention), and legal obligation where applicable. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting the content or your account.

7. Children

Dignity requires a date of birth upon signing up for an account in order to access the application. We do not allow accounts for anyone under 13 years old and do not knowingly collect information from individuals under that age. Users aged 13–17 may use Dignity only with a parent or guardian's consent to our Terms, and the coach applies additional safeguards for them, which are described on our crisis support page. Organization (school) deployments require the organization to obtain any parental consent that applies.

We store only the birth year and whether the account belongs to a minor. The day and month you enter are used once to calculate your age and are not kept.

If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at app@dignity-inc.com and we will take steps to remove that personal information from our servers.

8. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, per-row database access rules, hashed passwords, server-side authentication checks on every request that touches your data, and rate limits on the coach. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep the surface small and the defaults private. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify affected users and regulators as required by law. If a breach affects your unsecured health information we will notify you, and where required the Federal Trade Commission, within 60 days of discovery (FTC Health Breach Notification Rule).

9. International users

Dignity is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed there. If you use Dignity from outside the US, you understand that your information will be transferred to the US, where data-protection law may differ from your own.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Dignity after a change means you accept the updated policy.
